Discover the romance of rail through the scenic Mary Valley in Queensland on board a heritage train. The journey passes through Dagun as you travel around an abundance of curves, over bridges and numerous gentle hills as the Mary River chugs by.
You head to the quaint community of Amamoor, near Amamoor Station, a delightful historic town bordered by a verdant forest reserve. Here you can watch the fascinating process of the turning of the engine on the turntable.
The historic Gympie to Maryborough railway was completed in 1881, taking you back to the times of the gold rush when the railway line was an all-important connection for transporting gold from the historic Gympie station to the world beyond.
The last industrial train to enter the Gympie station arrived at the platform in 1995, and now it sees thousands of visitors every year ready to experience its history through the heritage train. The station now has a visitor shop, function rooms and a cafe to enjoy; Rusty Rails Cafe is a popular spot to rest, relax and refresh before and after your train adventure.
